ABOUT THE AMERICAN AWARDS

The American Awards is an online democratic system for recognizing and honoring the best people in America, while simultaneously raising money for charitable causes and small-business startups.

Unlike many award shows, which place a heavy emphasis on celebrity worship, the American Awards was specifically created to honor the people in our society who are most deserving of recognition, and the most worthy of being role models to the rest of us.

HOW IT WORKS

To nominate someone you love or admire for an American Award, simply compose a short narrative which makes the case for why your nominee deserves to win in the category you’re nominating them in. After you’ve submitted the nomination and our moderators have approved it, we’ll inform your nominee of their nomination by e-mail. Unless they specifically choose to decline the nomination for some reason, we’ll give them the opportunity to pick both a charitable cause and a small-business startup fund to receive financial support in honor of their nomination. After doing so, the nomination will be posted live to our site where the public will be able to view the nomination and vote on it.

Each month, the nomination with the highest average score in each category is declared a finalist. Then, at the end of the year, our panel of judges will hand-pick one winner in each category from amongst the finalists.

Unlike most competitions, where the winners receive material rewards for winning, no prizes of any value are given to the winners of the American Awards. This policy is in effect to ensure maximum compliance with federal and state gaming laws, and ensure that every American is eligible to be nominated and have their story shared, regardless of where they live. Consequently, the only benefit to being declared a finalist or winner is the honor of knowing you’ve been chosen by your fellow Americans as our nation’s best-of-the-best.

OUR STORY

The original inspiration for the American Awards came when our founder realized that America had a number of platforms for recognizing excellence among famous actors and musicians, but no fair system for recognizing excellence in many of the most important (but simultaneously most commonplace) roles in our society. Believing that the best mothers and fathers in America deserve as much praise and acclaim as our best actors and musicians, Peter built the American Awards to provide a fair way to recognize and honor the unsung heroes that represent our nation at our very best.
